We run a range of taster classes and events during Welcome Week! They’re all free to join and don’t require any previous dancing experience. Come along to as many as you like to see everything that we have on offer!
Welcome Ceilidh
Ceilidhs are an essential part of Scottish social dancing, and they’ll be an essential part of your university career. Come kick it off right with experienced ceilidh dancers who’ll show you the ropes – who knows, maybe you’ll catch the bug and come to our classes to hone your skills. New Scotland runs once-monthly ceilidhs through the year, starting now!

Ceilidh & Country Tasters
These taster sessions will be a free introduction to our Scottish country and ceilidh dance classes that run all semester. Ceilidh and country dancing are a social, fun dance tradition in Scotland. Knowing the basics will improve your standing at ceilidhs for the rest of your time at university, and you might discover a lifelong passion!

Highland Tasters
These classes are a free taster session for our Highland dance classes that run all semester. Our beginners, intermediate, and advanced classes are taught by experienced teachers in a friendly community, and we have something for every level of experience. Highland dance is a Scottish tradition and great fun – the perfect way to make friends.

Step Tasters
This free taster session will introduce you to Step, a traditional Scottish dance style from the same roots as Irish or Tap dance. We run beginner and advanced level classes all semester, taught by friendly and experienced teachers. Join us at this class to learn more about the dance style and its rich history, and to have fun dancing!
